Learn to Fly Fish in the Blue Ridge at Rose River Farm
Experience the art of fly fishing in the tranquil setting of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains on a beautiful private lake at Rose River Farm. Our classes are welcoming, hands-on, and designed especially for beginners—no experience required. We proudly welcome participants from all backgrounds and skill levels, helping each angler discover not only how to cast but also how to connect with nature in a new and meaningful way.
Learning to fly fish offers benefits that go beyond the water. It’s a relaxing, meditative outdoor activity that encourages focus, patience, and mindfulness. You’ll build coordination and confidence as you learn each skill step by step—from reading water and choosing flies to mastering your cast. Fly fishing also fosters a deep appreciation for the environment, creating a lasting connection to the rivers, streams, and wildlife that make Virginia’s Blue Ridge so special.

Class Time: 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM
Class Size: Limited to 6 anglers per session
Instructors: Two experienced guides per class
Price: $125 per person (all equipment provided)

What You’ll Learn
Gear basics: Rods, reels, lines, leaders, tippets, and how it all works together
Flies: Different kinds of flies and when to use them (matching conditions & fish behavior)
Knots: What to use and when, including clinch, surgeon’s, and uni knots
Casting: Three core techniques—Basic fly cast, Roll cast, and Belgian cast
On-water skills: Reading water, setting the hook, line management, and fly selection in practice
Fish time: We’ll put it all together and head onto the water to try to catch fish
Families and groups are welcome!
